Where it started

Hi, I’m Lorna, founder of Therapy Rebels.

I’ve been blessed to spend much of my career working alongside some incredible dynamic counselling and therapy teams who have shaped my approach to this work immensely.

A thread running through that work has been bringing counselling into communities and spaces where people might never have engaged in going to therapy – whether there were financial barriers to access, stigma, or because they haven’t seen themselves represented in traditional mental health and wellness spaces.

And that has always stayed with me.

Therapeutic mental health and wellbeing support can create powerful spaces for understanding ourselves, personal development and navigating what life throws at us leading to vital change individually and as groups. I think it’s made particularly meaningful for marginalised and minoritised communities as we face systemic and historical contexts that impact our solo and collective healing.

Bringing together a group of passionate like-minded practitioners felt like the way to bring to life more ways to contribute to that collective healing.

That’s where Therapy Rebels began.

The Collective

We are Therapy Rebels

  • Curious
  • Culturally aware
  • Socially aware
  • Open-minded
  • Authentic

We are a collective of therapists with a shared belief that therapy needs to keep moving with the world around us.

Between us, we bring different approaches, specialisms, identities, experiences and ways of working. What connects us is a desire for the work we do to feel relevant to the people and communities we work with and within.

That means being curious, culturally and socially aware, open-minded, authentic and willing to think beyond the traditional therapy rulebook. It means recognising that what happens outside the counselling room counts – culture, community, identity, inequality, relationships and the world we’re living in.

We generate strength in being a collective – learning from each other, sharing ideas, bringing our own flavour to the work, while holding onto a shared belief that therapy should feel human, relatable and connected to real life.

Different therapists. Different strengths. Shared values.

And a little rebellion.

What we believe

Therapy for the lives we actually live

Therapy Rebels is about therapeutic support that feels human, relevant and connected to the here and now.

We care about all the complicated, sometimes beautiful and often messy stuff that comes with being human:

  • Culture
  • Identity
  • Community
  • Relationships
  • Family
  • Work
  • Joy
  • Grief
  • Inequality
  • Belonging
  • The state of the world

We particularly want to create spaces where people from marginalised and minoritised communities can see themselves represented and find support that understands that our emotional lives don’t exist separately from our cultures, communities and experiences of the world.

Low cost online counselling

We believe good counselling should be accessible to as many people as possible. That’s why we offer low-cost online counselling, creating another route into therapy when traditional therapy fees are out of reach.

Beyond the counselling room

We know that therapeutic support can go beyond the counselling room. Through our community projects, partnerships and workplace wellbeing work, we can take support into the places where people already live, work, connect and belong.

The Collective

We think therapists are stronger when we’re in community. Our specially selected Therapy Rebels Collective brings together brilliant therapists with different identities, experiences, approaches and specialisms — creating connection between us while offering bold, visible representation for the people looking for support.

We want to keep finding ways for therapy to fit around people.

That’s the rebellion.
